Saba is a Caribbean Island, and is also the smallest special municipality (Public Entity) of the Netherlands. The island is characterized by its beautiful nature, the volcano Mount Scenery (which is the highest point within the Kingdom of the Netherlands at a height of 887 meters), a particularly beautiful underwater world and its inhabitants.
Saba became a special municipality within the Netherlands after the dissolution of the Netherlands Antilles on October 10th, 2010. Currently about 1900 inhabitants (including several hundred medical students) live on an area of 13 square kilometres on Saba.

In the organization employees work together towards continuous development of the island in the interest of the community. Our colleagues work in different departments; airport, harbor, water management, public works, planning, waste management and recycling, tourism, daycare, community development, public health, agriculture, HRM, ICT, finance, communications, census, legal and safety, and other various policy and project areas. In total there are 240 employees.
The Island Government of Saba is working towards more self-sufficient and economic development, with a focus on sustainability, accessibility, poverty alleviation, and improving the quality of life on the island. Together with the stakeholders we work on topics such as; a healthy lifestyle, poverty alleviation, improvement of recycling, a new harbor, a new daycare and afterschool care buildings, marketing of eco-tourism, nature development, stimulating agriculture, expansion and renovation of the administration building, implement culture policy, digitalization, training and education of civil servants and ongoing professionalization, development of the organization.
Absolute Childcare is a department of the Island Government of Saba and provides daycare services for children 0-3 years old and After School Care Services for children 4-12 years old. We provide high quality childcare services focused on the individuality and uniqueness of each child. We strive to be a home away from home, where children can play, explore, have fun and be creative.
Description of main duties
We are looking for a Childcare Manager who can play a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction of the childcare center while ensuring smooth daily operations. The Manager’s leadership fosters a safe and nurturing environment for children aged 0-12, supported by strong communication skills and a dedication to providing high-quality care and education.
Provides Leadership:
- Provides leadership to 20+ employees by monitoring and coordinating the quality and quantity of day-to-day activities and guiding, instructing, coaching, and motivating employees where necessary.
- Takes the lead in further increasing the quality of care and services we provide together with the staff.
- Identifies and follows up on staff trainings, education and development needs.
- Conducts performance and assessment interviews and draws up the necessary documentation.
Develops and implements (Strategic) Policy:
- Ensures implementation of the mission, vision and core values of the childcare center.
- Contributes to the development and preparation of pedagogical, health and safety and other relevant policies, and is responsible for implementation of the policies.
- Ensures the childcare center complies with the new Childcare Law BES and accompanying regulations.
Achieves financial objectives:
- Contributes to the establishment of the budget, keeping track of and managing the budget.
- Ensures timely and accurate subsidy application.
- Provides financial reports.
Coordinates internal operations:
- Is the point of contact within the childcare center for staff, parents, parent committee, primary school, inspectorate, and other stakeholders.
- Ensures the correct quantitative and qualitative staffing within the childcare center.
- Regularly conducts, participates in, or chairs work meetings, InterVision, Parent meetings, and informs employees about important topics.
- Is responsible for purchasing materials and ensures facilities / resources and are kept in good condition.

- You have a Bachelor’s (HBO) or Master’s degree with a minimum of 3 years relevant work experience as Childcare Manager.

- You speak and write English properly, and preferably can also speak and write Dutch.
- A certificate of good conduct (VOG) is required for employment.
